Henry Thompson Stanton papers, 1877-1888.

This group contains two letters and a poem written by Henry T. Stanton, a Kentucky literary figure of the nineteenth century. This collection has two letters written by Stanton on YEOMAN stationery. An 1877 letter to Dr. Alfred G. Stitt of Millersburg discussed the reading of a Stanton poem by Stitt's son at school. The other letter, dated 1880, to someone named only as "Col." concerned the sudden death of Colonel Jerry South. There is also a nine-page poem present which was written by Stanton for the unveiling of a Confederate monument at Georgetown Cemetery June 2, 1888. Stanton read the poem at the ceremony.
